Biden is waiting for Congress to take action to tighten gun control

U.S. President Joe Biden expects Congress to implement legislative initiatives to tighten gun control in light of the fact that shooting incidents kill tens of thousands of people each year in the country.

Biden believes he has surpassed other presidents in the number of measures taken to curb gun violence in the country. He also assured that he would continue his efforts in that direction. “But my power is not unlimited. Congress must act, including banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, requiring gun owners to store guns securely, instituting background checks on all gun sales, and stripping gun manufacturers of immunity from prosecution. We also need more governors and state legislators to take these steps,” the president said.

The nation’s head of state cited data from the nongovernmental organization Gun Violence Archive in the article showing that more than 650 different shooting incidents have occurred in the United States in the past 12 months, killing more than 40,000 people.

“Most Americans, even most gun owners, want Congress to take some reasonable steps to curb gun violence. But too many Republicans in Congress are fulfilling the demands of gun manufacturers rather than their constituents,” the U.S. president believes.

The White House released a statement Sunday noting that Biden has approved several initiatives aimed at preventing shooting incidents. These, among others, are aimed at increasing cooperation between federal and local authorities, ensuring more intensive exchange of data, conducting background checks on people who purchase weapons.
