U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden attended a ceremony Saturday to accept the Navy’s newest nuclear-powered Virginia-class submarine Delaware (SSN 791), which cost nearly $3 billion to build.
President Biden “thanked all those involved in building the missile-torpedo submarine.”
“As your commander in chief, I believe it is our sacred responsibility to train and equip the troops we send to dangerous places and to take care of them and their families when they return home,” Biden added.
He quipped, noting his wife’s efforts in the White House program to support military families.
“I’m very proud of the work she’s doing as First Lady on the Joining Forces initiative, which she started with former First Lady Michelle Obama when she was vice president.”
