About 6.5 million migrants have illegally crossed the southern U.S. border since 2021

Approximately 6.5 million migrants have illegally crossed the southern border of the United States since Joe Biden became president of the United States in 2021. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (Republican from Texas) cited such figures.

“Under Joe Biden, we’ve seen the worst immigration policy in the history of our country, with 6.5 million people crossing the border illegally. It’s a disaster,” the senator said in an interview with Newsmax television. According to Cruz, “170,000 illegal migrants have now set up camps along the southern border, preparing to cross it in the coming days.”

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said 24,000 border patrol officers and more than 1,000 military personnel are working on the U.S.-Mexico border because of the worsening situation with illegal migration.

The Washington Post reported that a record number of migrants from Latin American countries tried to cross the U.S. border because of the end Thursday of the state of emergency imposed during the pandemic coronavirus.

U.S. President Joe Biden on April 11 approved the lifting of the nation’s March 2020 state of emergency. It allowed the administration to deploy additional resources to combat the spread of the coronavirus, including without the approval of Congress. The health emergency provision has been extended several times, most recently until April 11, 2023.
