Xiaomi released a hugely successful clone of the iPad Pro for half its price
The Android tablet market is on the rise again, and Xiaomi has made a significant contribution, with its first new model in three years. Experts note that the Mi Pad 5 Pro tablet is essentially a clone of the hugely successful iPad Pro, Apple’s flagship product. But it has a strategic advantage over it – half the price tag.
The heart of the new model is the Snapdragon 870 processor, which has four Cortex A77 and Cortex A55 cores each. The RAM is 6 GB (optional – 8 GB), the permanent 128 GB expandable to 256 GB. The screen is 11-inch, with a resolution of 2560 × 1600. The base battery of 8600 mA⋅h, there is support for NFC, Wi-Fi 6, fingerprint scanner, USB-C port and 8 speakers on both sides of the body. The tablet itself is made of aluminum and weighs 515 grams.
Judging by the location of the speakers, fingerprint scanner and keyboard, the device is clearly focused on the landscape mode. But at the same time the front camera is shifted to the left, which makes video calls difficult. This is probably a compromise, as a digital pen accessory, a signal transmitter and wireless charging, is attached to the right with magnets.
The Mi Pad 5 Pro tablet is currently on sale only in China, with a minimum price of 2,499 yuan and a maximum price of 3,499 yuan. That’s half the price of the Apple iPad Pro modifications, and the same policy applies to accessories. For example, $62 for the stylus versus $129 for the Apple Pencil, and $60 for the physical keyboard instead of $300 for Apple’s Magic Keyboard.
