U.S. hotels are forced to use robots due to labor shortages

Hotels around the world are facing a shortage of workers. According to industry experts, the coronavirus pandemic is to blame. Now that it is over, travelers have started using hotels again. However, many employees who previously had to be laid off never returned to business. Against this background, hotel owners began to pay more attention to robots.

For example, the management of the Garden City Hotel on Long Island invested $60,000 to buy two industrial-grade robot vacuum cleaners. Thanks to them it is possible to save a lot of money – a full hotel cleaning by robots is equivalent to one full working shift of live employees. As a result, people’s time can be freed up to do other work. All you need to do to enable robotic cleaning is to keep an eye on the battery level and the vacuum bags filled.

Now many hoteliers are preparing for a negative staffing shortage situation in the coming year. They are considering other scenarios where robots can successfully replace humans. This could be not only room cleaning, but also, for example, the possibility of automated check-in of guests. In Baltimore, the Country Inn and Suites is exploring the possibility of launching a high-tech self-check-in kiosk next to the front door.
