Elon Musk will support Florida Governor Ron Desantis if he decides to run for president

Ron Desantis beat his Democratic rival Charlie Crist by nearly 20 percent in the November 8, 2022 election and not only retained his position as governor of Florida, but also cemented his fame as a rising star in the Republican Party.

Political analysts are giving high marks to Desantis, who is seen as a potential rival to former President Donald Trump on the Republican Party’s list of presidential candidates for the 2024 election.

“I prefer to see someone reasonable and centrist as president in 2024. I was hoping the seat would be filled by the Biden administration, but so far I’m disappointed,” Musk wrote on Twitter. “Yes,” he replied there when asked if he would support Desantis.

“Recall that I was a staunch supporter of the Obama-Biden administration, and reluctantly voted for Joe Biden against Trump,” the new Twitter owner said.

Musk had already said in June that he was leaning toward supporting Desantis in the 2024 presidential election, adding that the Florida governor would easily defeat Joe Biden in the election.

When asked about Musk’s support, however, Desantis joked, “What can I say – I welcome support from African-Americans.”

Ron Desantis is popular among conservatives for taking the lead on issues of the culture war regarding race and gender. His governorship was also marked by the passage of legislation restricting discussion of LGBTQ issues in schools, the rejection of many pandemic-related restrictions, and legal wrangling with the Walt Disney Company.

Before the U.S. midterm elections, Elon Musk urged Americans to elect a Republican Congress to balance the Democratic Party. However, the Democrats overturned Republican hopes for a red wave by retaining control of the Senate, and the Republicans won only a slim majority in the House of Representatives.
