Republicans have not ruled out Biden’s impeachment in case of victory

Republicans do not rule out the possibility of starting the process of impeaching President Joe Biden if he wins the U.S. Congressional elections. Kevin McCarthy, leader of the Republican minority in the U.S. House of Representatives, said this in an interview published Monday on CNN.

“We would never use impeachment for political purposes,” he said in response to a related question. – But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen at another time, if the appropriate situation arises.”

McCarthy added that Republicans would also consider parliamentary investigations into some of the problems in the administration of Democratic President Biden, particularly in the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The focus for Republicans, McCarthy added, could also be on strengthening government oversight of education and combating the pandemic.

Republicans expect to gain control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate in the upcoming Nov. 8 election. Even if that happens, however, Biden would need the support of two-thirds of the Senate to declare impeachment. Such a significant Republican victory is not projected at this point in the election results.
