NASA said on Tuesday that one of the three new batteries recently installed outside the US segment of the International Space Station is not functioning.
Earlier it was reported that on March 22, NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nick Hague connected three new rechargeable batteries, which had been previously installed using a remote manipulator, during a spacewalk. The batteries were delivered to the station in September 2018 by a Japanese cargo ship.
The NASA website notes that after successful launch ground experts tested the performance of the power supply channel with three new batteries. However, on the weekend, an attempt to charge one of the batteries failed.
The agency said that engineers dealt with the cause of the emergency situation and are looking for ways to solve the problem. It will not affect the work of the ISS
Currently, on board ISS is a crew consisting of Russians Oleg Kononenko and Alexei Ovchinin, Americans Christina Koch, Anne McClain and Nick Hague as well as canadian David Saint-Jacques.
