U.S. birth rate declines after a two-year rebound

The birth rate in the U.S. declined in 2023, after a small two-year rebound following the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to preliminary CDC data, there were 3.59 million births in 2023, a rate of 54.4 births per 1,000 women ages 15 to 44.

That’s 76,000 fewer births than in 2022.

As a result of the decline, last year’s birth rate was lower than in 2020, a year when there were 56 births per 1,000 women.
