Thousands of people have joined forces to recreate a 1:1 scale New York City in Minecraft
Programmer with the nickname Minefact has published new videos of the construction of one of the largest maps for Minecraft. It will be a detailed copy of New York City, and the authors of the project emphasize – the scale is maintained 1:1. Given the size of the metropolis is obviously not an easy task, but the team is constantly growing, and now it has more than 2500 people.
The project was born in 2020, when the covid pandemic drove people home. As Minefact recalls, suddenly many were trapped, the familiar world outside became inaccessible to them, so they began to discover virtual worlds. Simple walks and games were replaced by new acquaintances, communication, and eventually this culminated in a desire to create something new and grandiose together.
Minefact is originally from Frankfurt, but I chose New York because it is much better known. And there is much more information about its buildings, architectural monuments, infrastructure, and other objects – plus it is available to people all over the world.
The first buildings that were transferred to Minecraft were the 9/11 memorials. The team was so inspired by the idea that entire neighborhoods pop up every day.
