The world’s first jetpack races were held in Dubai

In Dubai, an event called “Dubai Jet Suit Race”, in which pilots with jetpacks competed in high-speed passing the distance, has come to an end. The sponsor of the competition was Gravity, and the cost of one jetpack averaged $400 thousand. Because of this, among other things, the number of participants was limited, and the race itself was not too exciting – no one wanted to risk damaging equipment or health.

Theoretically everything could be different, because each racer has 1050 hp at his disposal, distributed over seven jet engines. That’s more than the main tanks of the world’s leading armies, only here all the power is concentrated in the hands of one man. They could accelerate to impressive speeds, but with this method of transportation it is impossible to protect a person from unforeseen circumstances.

The equipment weighs 26 kg, plus the pilot has a tank with 15 liters of fuel. Alas, this is enough for only 9 minutes of flight, so there is no spectacular show with tricks in the air. The participants of the race simply flew along 5-meter inflatable pylons marking the track, not trying to compete with each other. It’s not hard to understand them – such a flight is still largely an experimental maneuver, and no one wants to crash from a height at high speed even into water.
