The destruction of a Pfizer plant in North Carolina could cause drug shortages in the U.S.

The destruction of the plant of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer in North Carolina may lead to a serious shortage of some drugs in the country.

The destroyed plant produced painkillers as well as 25% of all injectable drugs used in U.S. hospitals.

The damage caused by the powerful tornado “will likely result in long-term drug shortages while Pfizer decides whether to shift production to other facilities or repair the destroyed plant,” Fox said. Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said at least 50,000 boxes of drugs “were scattered throughout the plant and damaged by wind and rain”.

Wednesday’s tornado significantly damaged their plant. Employees at the plant were evacuated. The tornado lasted about half an hour and affected several towns in North Carolina. At least 16 people were injured.
