Students protesting in support of Palestine have taken over a building at Columbia University
In the early morning hours of April 30, protesters occupied Columbia University’s main building, Hamilton Hall. Students set up barricades of street furniture in front of the building.
This is not the first time Hamilton Hall has been occupied. In 1968, the building was occupied during a protest for civil rights and against the Vietnam War.
Columbia University began suspending pro-Palestinian activists who refused to dismantle a tent encampment on the university’s New York campus.
Earlier, the university, a member of the prestigious Ivy League, announced an impasse in negotiations aimed at ending the protest.
