Shooting at Walmart store in Virginia: 7 people dead, including shooter

Seven people, including the shooter, were killed in a shooting at a Walmart supermarket in Virginia; four of the wounded are hospitalized.

This was reported by authorities in Chesapeake, Virginia, where the tragedy occurred.

The shooter himself is listed as one of the dead, officials said. Police believe the shooter was alone.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at a Walmart supermarket around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday and found several people dead and wounded in the store, police officer Leo Kosinski said.

We are shocked by these tragic events at our store in Chesapeake … We are praying for the victims, the residents and our employees,” Walmart said in a tweet.

Senator Mark Warner tweeted that he was “shocked by reports of another mass shooting, this time at a Walmart store in Chesapeake.”

Chesapeake is located about 11 kilometers south of Norfolk, home to the U.S. Atlantic Fleet’s main base.

The attack came just days after a shooting at a gay club in Colorado Springs that left five people dead and 18 injured.
