Rudy Giuliani’s actions are reviewed by the Bar Ethics Board

The D.C. Special Counsel for the Bar has begun a review of the role of President Donald Trump’s former attorney Rudy Giuliani in making false accusations regarding the 2020 presidential election results. The outcome of that review will make clear what the final decision will be on Giuliani’s law license in Washington, D.C., which was suspended after his law license was revoked in New York State. At the time, a state appeals court found that Giuliani had made “knowingly false and misleading” claims that massive fraud in the 2020 election undermined the latter’s results.

At Monday’s hearing, a council spokesman said Giuliani initiated “baseless legal claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen,” thereby “using his legal license as a weapon to bring a baseless lawsuit in an attempt to undermine the Constitution.” That said, it was argued at the hearing that Rudy Giuliani knew exactly what he was doing, as he not only held a law license, but was also an influential politician, and a former prosecutor and mayor of New York City.

This is primarily about the November 2020 lawsuit on behalf of Trump’s campaign headquarters in Pennsylvania. A lawsuit to invalidate a portion of the state’s electoral votes was dismissed by a judge. A federal appeals court denied Trump’s staff a review of the complaint.

Giuliani was the first witness called Monday. The decision – whether to punish him – will be made after hearing testimony from all available witnesses.
