Psaki: U.S. stands ready to work with other countries to remove people from Afghanistan

The United States is ready to work with other countries around the world to evacuate people from Afghanistan and send humanitarian aid. White House press secretary Jen Psaki made the announcement Wednesday, answering questions from reporters aboard the president’s plane bound for Pennsylvania.

She was asked to comment on the consultations on Afghanistan held in the Russian capital.

“I need to get more information about the exact nature of these discussions. Obviously, our focus remains on working with like-minded countries and parties around the world to make sure that we send a clear message to the Taliban about getting people out of Afghanistan, allowing them to fly freely, and providing humanitarian assistance to those in need,” Psaki said.

On Wednesday, Russia held its third meeting on Afghanistan. As noted in the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement circulated after the meeting, participants in the consultations stressed the importance of forming an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
