President Joe Biden announced the end of the campaign trail

President Joe Biden on Sunday announced the end of his campaign for re-election after a failed debate with Donald Trump that raised questions about his fitness for the job just four months before the election.

The decision came after mounting pressure from Biden’s Democratic allies who have been pushing for the president to step down. During a debate with his Republican rival Donald Trump, the 81-year-old president failed to defend his accomplishments and denounce his predecessor’s numerous false statements.

Biden plans to serve out the remainder of his term, which ends at noon on January 20, 2025.

“It has been my greatest honor to serve you as president. And while I had intended to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and country that I decline to do so and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote.

Thirty minutes later, Biden expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris, who instantly became the party’s favorite for the nomination at the August convention in Chicago.

“Today I want to fully endorse Kamala as our party’s nominee this year,” he wrote in another post on X. – Democrats – it’s time to unite and defeat Trump.”
