Police investigate shooting incident in Atlanta
One person died and five others were injured in a shooting incident Saturday night in Atlanta near the Atlantic Station Mall, the Atlanta Police Department said.
One person died at the scene, and five others suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to nearby hospitals, Atlanta police Lt. Jermaine Dearlove explained at a news conference.
The severity of their condition was not specified.
According to police, around 8 p.m. Saturday, a group of teenagers were escorted off the Atlantic Station property by Atlanta police officers and mall staff. They were removed for “disorderly conduct,” Dirlove said.
After the group of youths were escorted off the mall grounds, an argument ensued near Atlantic Station that led to a shooting, Dirlove said. The cause of the argument is currently under investigation.
Police believe the victims in the incident are between 15 and 21 years old.
Atlantic Station is a major mall in Atlanta.
Police are seeking to identify those involved in what happened, as preliminary information suggests the argument was between two groups and there may have been two shooters, Dirlove said.
