One of the first Apple computers sold for $ 400 thousand at auction

One of the 200 computers of 1976 Apple-1 model was sold on Tuesday at an auction in California for $ 400 thousand, Agence France-Presse reported about it on Wednesday.

It is noted that computers of this model were personally collected by Apple founders Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs in 1976. 175 out of 200 Apple-1s have been sold. It is estimated that around 20 computers are still in working order around the world by now. The auction site indicates that the system unit is made of wood grown in Hawaii. It comes with a 1986 Panasonic monitor.

The item up for sale was owned by only two people. Its first owner was an American professor who taught programming; he sold the computer to one of his students in 1977. “He was going to buy an Apple-II and gave it to me for $650. Of course, no one thought the computer would be auctioned off,” the former owner said. In 1976, the new Apple-1 cost $666.66, a price tag that was put up, in part, because “Steve Wozniak likes nice numbers.”

It was expected that the value of the lot could grow to $600 thousand. In 2013, the Apple-1 at an auction in Germany was sold for $671 thousand. In 2014, a computer of this model was sold in New York for $905 thousand.

Apple was founded on April 1, 1976, to finance the venture Jobs sold his car and Wozniak sold his expensive calculator. The Apple-1 was the company’s first computer and one of the first personal computers in the world available to a wide range of consumers.

Now Apple makes smartphones iPhone, tablets iPad, computers iMac, laptops MacBook and other high-tech equipment. The corporation, headquartered in Cupertino, California, is one of the largest in the world.
