Nearly 300 people arrested in New York City during student protests

The NYPD arrested about 300 people during student protests at Columbia University in support of Palestine. This was announced by New York Mayor Eric Adams at a press conference.

“Police officers went in and conducted an operation. About 300 people were arrested at Columbia University,” he said.

According to the mayor, no one was hurt during the arrests. At the same time, Adams noted that there could have been provocateurs among the protesters.

US police have arrested about 900 people over the past ten days at pro-Palestinian demonstrations held on the campuses of US universities. The wave of arrests on US campuses began on April 18, when Columbia University’s chancellor Minoush Shafiq asked the NYPD to help chase protesters off the campus. The decision led to the arrest of more than 100 people at the Manhattan campus and sparked new waves of protests across the country.
