Mike Minihan urged his subordinates to prepare for war with China in 2025
U.S. Air Force General Mike Minihan, in a memo to his subordinates, suggested that the United States would go to war with China in two years. This was reported by NBC television on Friday.
“I hope I’m wrong. My intuition tells me that we will be fighting in 2025,” the network quoted an excerpt from the document. The authenticity of the memo was confirmed by a representative of the U.S. Air Force Transportation Command.
The general said Chinese authorities could use the U.S. presidential election in 2024 to conduct an operation aimed at taking control of Taiwan.
In addition, Minihan urged his subordinates to report by the end of February on measures to prepare for combat operations with China.
Taiwan’s largest island has been ruled by its own administration since 1949. Beijing considers the territory one of China’s provinces.
Tensions over Taiwan escalated after the visit of then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to Taipei in August 2022. The day after the visit, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army began large-scale maneuvers with missile firing in six areas of the island.
