Microsoft is considering the idea of cheap cloud computers with endless advertising
Analysts have noticed new job openings at Microsoft that seek specialists to create a hybrid environment between the cloud and a primitive low-cost PC. They also noticed that the original job description contained clauses concerning the introduction of advertising and paid subscription models. Those clauses have now been removed from the text, but Microsoft’s intent has already been revealed.
Strictly speaking, this is no secret at all, as Microsoft launched the Windows 365 subscription service last year, which you can run on any computer and perform tasks on a remote cloud resource with high computing power. It’s much cheaper than buying or renting a high-performance PC, but you have to view as many ads as Microsoft managers want. They’ve even tried to build it into the Windows 11 OS Explorer window, and they’ve also bragged about partnering with Netflix in the advertising business, so this is taking on the nature of a trend.
The world is entering a strange era where average users are finding it increasingly difficult to afford a new cutting-edge gadget or computer. And not the least of these is the IT giants, who benefit from creating hybrid spaces based on cloud technology and rudimentary computers. In such an environment, which is proposed to be developed by new Microsoft employees, corporations will have maximum influence and control over users. And the imposed viewing of advertisements may not be the greatest evil.
