Mexican truck drivers blocked U.S. border

Mexican truck drivers blocked border crossings to the U.S. to protest the actions of the governor of Texas.

The border blockade began after Governor Greg Abbott ordered inspections of vehicles entering from Mexico to prevent the smuggling of illegal migrants and contraband.

Some drivers report that the border crossing process took more than ten hours.

The Mexican government issued a statement saying it “rejects” Texas’ actions and pointing out that two-thirds of bilateral trade was affected as a result. A number of business organizations protested.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the long lines were caused by “additional and unnecessary inspections” ordered by the governor of Texas.
