Mercedes-Benz will be the first in the world to add ChatGPT to its cars
Mercedes-Benz has announced the start of beta testing in its proprietary MBUX multimedia system, ChatGPT. About 900,000 vehicles of different model ranges will take part in it. Testing is deployed only for customers in the United States and will last about three months. Any eligible vehicle owner can become a tester by launching the “Mercedes me” mobile app or by making a voice request to participate.
Once registration is complete, the infotainment system will receive a corresponding update with a beta version of ChatGPT. The standard voice assistant will have a new functionality, which will give the user the opportunity to interact with it, not only a specific set of commands, but also a relatively natural language. In this case, the chat-bot will be able to give detailed answers to complex questions. In addition, the assistant will be able to maintain a conversation to entertain the driver with a conversation during the trip.
This innovation is based on Microsoft’s proprietary cloud technologies and AI platform, but Mercedes reports that it retains full control over confidential information. The system collects user data, but it is not transmitted to Microsoft, but accumulated in an impersonal form in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud for later processing. Specially designed security measures will ensure a high level of customer privacy. After analyzing the results of testing, engineers will make the necessary improvements and prepare new language packages for the introduction of ChatGPT in cars in other countries.
