Mercedes-Benz has started selling cars with Level 3 autopilot

Mercedes-Benz has begun selling the EQS and S-Class sedans equipped with Drive Pilot in the United States. The German brand surpassed Tesla by being the first to offer consumers self-driving cars with Level 3 autopilot, which allows them not to keep an eye on the road while driving. You can only buy them in two states – Nevada and California.

The autonomous driving feature comes in the form of a Drive Pilot subscription, with an annual fee of $2,500. It can only be activated on certain highways or certain sections of highways. It is stipulated that it can be used only in clear weather and at a speed of no more than 40 mph. It is strictly forbidden to activate Drive Pilot in areas where road construction is taking place. After activating the function, the driver can take his hands off the steering wheel.

Sleeping and pushing back the seat is not allowed, this is continuously monitored by a camera built into the dashboard. This is necessary so that the driver can always intercept the control at a critical moment. In addition, entertainment and multimedia functions are activated so that the driver can fully enjoy the ride. Turquoise lights in the mirrors, taillights and headlights are also illuminated so that road users realize that the vehicle is moving autonomously. The same indication is switched on inside the cabin.
