Kombucha significantly reduces glucose levels in diabetics
Scientists from Georgetown University have conducted a study on the effect of tea mushroom, aka kombucha, on regulating glucose levels in the human body. Previously, this possibility was already proven when the drink was studied to find therapeutic properties in it. It turned out that adults can indeed be recommended to take kombucha to reduce insulin and blood glucose levels.
The new study focused on the effects of tea mushroom on people with type 2 diabetes. This disease is ranked eighth among the most deadly ailments. And the first as a cause of stroke, kidney failure and cardiovascular disease. In the U.S. alone, 96 million people are at risk.
One group of patients was given a glass of kombucha drink a day for four weeks. The second group received a placebo. As a result, people in the first group had their glucose levels drop from 164 to 116 mg/dL. Doctors decided to move them into the category of conditionally healthy people with values of 70-130 mg/dL and make changes in the treatment of their disease.
The difficulty is that at the moment it is not clear which of the components in the composition of kombucha gives such a beneficial effect. The drink is very rich in yeast and bacteria, as well as other substances, the research on this cocktail is still in its infancy. Therefore, tea mushroom can be recommended for the prevention of diabetes, but not as a therapeutic remedy for it – this is still a subject of future research.
