In New York City to open commuter center amid massive migration crisis

The authorities of New York will open a large center of assistance to newcomers on the territory of Randalls Island to cope with a large-scale migration crisis. It will serve up to 2,000 people.

“The number of asylum seekers in our care is increasing by the hundreds every day, pushing the [migrant housing] system to its limits,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Authorities are considering housing migrants in a variety of locations, including Central Park in Manhattan and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. By July 2024, the cost of housing migrants is expected to exceed $4.3 billion.

Last October, the mayor of New York announced the introduction of a state of emergency in the city due to the large flow of illegal migrants arriving in the city. According to Adams, the system of shelters for the homeless in the city was loaded at 100%. At the same time, 5-6 buses with illegal migrants arrive in the metropolis every day from southern states without any coordination or notification.
