Buffalo, N.Y., is facing the most devastating snowstorm in its history. Governor Kathy Hocul said this.
“We’re fighting a war. It’s a war with Mother Nature. She’s hitting us with everything she’s got. This will go down in history as the most destructive storm in Buffalo’s long history, which has seen many battles and many big storms,” the governor said.
Buffalo was rendered impassable by the storm that struck the city. Seven people were victims of the blizzard in the city and the number of victims of the weather could grow, the governor added. Some of those who died were frozen in cars, unable to get out. State authorities have helped hundreds of people stranded in various parts of the state due to bad weather, Hokul stressed.
A state of emergency declared Thursday will remain in effect. The authorities of New York have enlisted National Guardsmen to help in the fight against the consequences of the elements. On Monday, another 200 guardsmen will get to work. Highways and freeways are closed in some parts of the state, residents are asked to stay at home and if possible not to use vehicles.
Bad weather this week came to much of the United States and Canada in the form of a sharp cold snap, strong wind gusts and snowfall. Totally, according to the latest data cited by NBC television channel, at least 46 people died because of the storm in the United States.
