Hunter Biden pleads guilty to three charges by U.S. authorities
Hunter Biden has pleaded guilty to a number of charges as part of a deal with U.S. prosecutors.
The son of the head of the U.S. administration pleads guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay taxes. In addition, the parties reached a settlement on charges of weapons possession.
Christopher Clark, Hunter Biden’s spokesman, will help settle the case. “Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for the mistakes he made during a time of confusion and dependency in his life,” Clark’s statement.
The White House said Hunter’s parents “support him as he rebuilds his life.” In turn, former U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized the deal between the 53-year-old son of the head of the White House and American justice, writing on his social network Truth Social that instead of “criminal liability for hundreds of years” of imprisonment, the U.S. Justice Department “writes Hunter Biden a fine for a traffic violation.”
The investigation into Hunter Biden’s gun possession began in 2018 when it was revealed that he was in possession of a Colt Cobra revolver at the time and was taking drugs in the process. U.S. law prohibits the purchase or possession of guns by people who take or possess drugs. During the same period, the son of the former head of the U.S. administration ignored the requirements of the authorities to pay taxes.
However, the U.S. Department of Justice has not yet filed any charges related to the data from Biden Jr.’s laptop. The correspondence on the laptop of Hunter Biden, in particular, showed that he could arrange for a representative of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings, on whose board he was a member, to meet with his father at a time when he was vice president of the United States. Biden Senior, while in office, called for the dismissal of Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin, who launched an investigation into Burisma Holdings.
