Hulu announced the rebirth of the Futurama series - but immediately ran into a problem
Futurama fans got good news and bad news at the same time. At first, they were happy about the confirmed intention of the streaming service Hulu to revive the series. But immediately came the negative news – the management of the service could not find common ground with actor John DiMaggio. And that means that one of the key characters in the series is under threat.
The situation with Di Maggio is controversial, and the reasons for his absence are not entirely clear, especially since the rest of the former team was happy to return to work on the series. Perhaps there is a financial dispute, and Hulu decided to replace the voice actor, but fans have said that the robot Bender must speak only in Di Maggio’s voice, and that’s it. Otherwise, they threatened to boycott the new series.
As series creator Matt Groening stated, quote, “I am honored to announce the triumphant return of ‘Futurama’ one more time before we are suddenly cancelled again.” A fitting irony, since Futurama has been canceled three times in its history, this will be its fourth revival. Filming will begin this month and the series will be released in 2023.
