The UFC 236 fight ended in Atlanta.
In the main match of the evening, American Dustin Poirier defeated Hawaiian Max Holloway by unanimous decision of the judges. Poirier won the title of interim world champion in lightweight and gained the right to fight with Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov.
According to preliminary information, the unification fight is scheduled for September 7.
The result of main event at UFC 236 was of utmost importance for two reasons. firstly, it determined the holder of the temporary world champion title in lightweight, and secondly, its winner almost guaranteed to get the right to fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. A few days before the fight this was stated by Khabib and , and later confirmed by the UFC head Dana White.
