China Called the U.S. the World's Largest Nuclear Threat
The U.S. is the world’s biggest source of nuclear threat and must review its security policy. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said this at a briefing Friday.
“The U.S. is the world’s largest source of nuclear threat. It should carefully rethink its nuclear policy, responsibly fulfill its special and paramount responsibility to disarm by reducing the role of nuclear weapons in its national security policy, and take meaningful practical actions to reduce nuclear risks,” the diplomat said.
She also stressed that statements about the nuclear threat posed by the PRC are a pretext for the United States to expand its own nuclear arsenal.
The Wall Street Journal reported in early February, citing U.S. Strategic Command data, that China has more ground-based intercontinental ballistic missile launchers than the United States. Some U.S. lawmakers have called for increasing the country’s nuclear capabilities to confront the PRC and Russia.
