China accused the U.S. of hacking into a university computer system

China accused the U.S. of hacking into computers at a university where the U.S. claims to be conducting military research.

Beijing and Washington have previously accused each other of extensive online espionage on more than one occasion.

The National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center said Northwestern Polytechnic University reported the hacks in June.

The center said it traced the source of the hack to the U.S. National Security Agency, but did not specify how it was done.

China and the U.S., along with Russia, are considered leaders in research related to military activities in cyberspace.

Washington accuses Beijing of abusing its ability to steal trade secrets.

China complains that the U.S. is improperly spying on universities and other targets.

The U.S. Embassy in Beijing did not respond to a request for comment.
