Biden thinks it "would make sense" for Trump to comply with congressional demands

U.S. President Joe Biden said Friday that it “would make sense” for his predecessor, Donald Trump, to comply with a subpoena sent to him and testify before a committee investigating his supporters’ attack on Congress last year.

Trump received the subpoena from a House special committee whose members concluded that the Republican leader instigated the mob attack in an attempt to sabotage the results of the 2020 presidential election, which Biden won, and not hand power over to the victor.

In his first comments on the subpoena sent to Trump on Friday, Biden said in an interview with MSNBC that he “will not give an opinion on what Trump should do.”

Asked whether Trump should comply with the subpoena, Biden said: “I think that would be reasonable. I think the committee handled it very well.”

The interview also touched on the issue of protecting women’s rights to abortion. Asked by a reporter what the president was going to do if Republicans gained control of Congress and passed legislation banning abortion at the federal level, Biden said: “The president will have to sign that bill. I will veto it.”

In addition, Biden promised to sign legislation in January guaranteeing all American women the right to an abortion if Democrats manage to maintain control of the House and Senate.
