Biden said that Putin made the decision to invade Russia in Ukraine
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden said that the Russian president had approved the said decision to invade Ukraine. When asked directly if he was convinced that “President Putin intends to invade Ukraine,” Biden replied, “Yes.
In this regard, the U.S. chief of staff was asked if this meant that Washington was ending diplomatic engagement with Moscow on the current situation around Ukraine. “No,” Biden replied. “As long as Putin doesn’t do it, that is, Russia doesn’t go for the use of military force against Ukraine, diplomacy will always remain an opportunity to resolve this situation,” Biden stressed.
Biden claims that Russian forces intend to launch an attack on Ukraine in the coming days.
“We have reason to believe that Russian forces are planning and intend to attack Ukraine in the coming week, in the days ahead,” he claimed. According to his version, Russian forces “will choose Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, as their target.”
There have been recent allegations in Western countries, as well as in Kiev, of a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov called such information an empty and groundless escalation of tension.
