Biden declared a state of emergency in California because of the storm
President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in the state of California due to severe weather conditions. This is stated in a statement published Monday on the website of the White House.
“U.S. President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in the state of California and ordered state support in addition to state and local response to emergency conditions – ongoing severe winter storms, flooding and landslides that began Jan. 8, 2023,” the document said.
On Monday morning, more than 120,000 homes in California were without power. Heavy rains and gale force wind gusts were the cause of the mass outages. Weather forecasters also predict an inflow of moist air from tropical latitudes into the state. As a result of this atmospheric phenomenon, California may experience heavy downpours and snowfall in the mountainous areas on Monday.
