Biden called for a ban on the sale of assault weapons in the U.S. after the Nashville shooting

U.S. President Joe Biden urged lawmakers to ban the sale of assault weapons in the country.

“We must do more to stop gun violence so that our schools don’t become prisons. Again, I urge Congress to approve a bill that would ban assault weapons. It’s time to make more progress on this issue,” Biden wrote on Twitter, commenting on the shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, that killed three children and three adults.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, shooting incidents in the U.S. in 2022 killed more than 43,600 people. More than 37,900 people were injured in 2022, including 4,400 children. Over 1,600 children were killed.
