Biden and Trump won the Michigan primary

US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have won the Michigan primary, further increasing the chances of them facing off again in the general election.

Biden defeated Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips, his only significant rival in the Democratic Party.

Official results show the president received 81 percent of the vote.

But Democrats are also keeping a close eye on how many voters check the “do not support a particular candidate” box.

The fact is that Michigan has become an epicenter of activity for voters unhappy with Biden’s handling of the Gaza war. But so far, the number of such votes has turned out to be less than 13%.

As for Trump, he has already easily won Republican primaries in five states. In Michigan, he reportedly received about 68 percent of the vote.

Trump defeated his last rival in the primaries, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.

On Saturday, the former president beat her by 20 percentage points in Haley’s home state of South Carolina. In Michigan, Haley received less than 27 percent of the vote.

Trump’s staff wants to get the 1,215 delegates to the party convention needed to officially nominate him as the Republican nominee by mid-March.

Biden has already won victories in South Carolina, Nevada and New Hampshire.

Representatives from the White House and Biden’s staff have traveled to Michigan in recent weeks to speak with community leaders about the Israel-Hamas war and Biden’s approach to the conflict.

Trump’s dominance in the early states is unprecedented since 1976, when Iowa and New Hampshire laid down the tradition of first-past-the-post ballots.

He has won strong support from most segments of the Republican electorate, including evangelicals, conservatives and rural voters.

However, Trump has difficulty with college-educated voters. In that group, he lost to Haley in the South Carolina primary on Saturday.
