Beyoncé received nine Grammy nominations

Beyoncé has entered the upper echelon of contenders for the Grammy Awards.

The star singer received nine nominations, tying her husband, rapper Jay-Z, for the record total number of nominations in the history of the prestigious music award, which they now have 88 each.

Kendrick Lamar came in second with eight nominations this year.

Adele and Brandi Carlyle each received seven nominations.

Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Future, DJ Khaled, Randy Merrill and The-Dream each received six nominations.

The awards ceremony will take place Feb. 5 in Los Angeles.

Nearly half of this year’s top nominees are women.
