Apollo android robots are already at work at the Mercedes factory
Mercedes-Benz has started using humanoid robots at its plant in Hungary, where there is a labor shortage. The project was launched in cooperation with the American company Apptronik. The Apollo robots will replace humans by acting as assistants. It is assumed that on the production line they will be entrusted with the tasks of delivering the necessary components from warehouses with their preliminary inspection.
The Apollo modular humanoid was first unveiled in August 2023. The robot is equipped with powerful manipulators that resemble human hands. To power the android uses replaceable batteries, the capacity of which is enough for 4 hours of active work. One of the main features of Apptronik is a “unique force control system”. Its use ensures the safest possible operation of the car among people.
Mercedes-Benz top management considers the project a great opportunity to explore the possibilities of robots to replace labor. The most labor-intensive, dangerous and monotonous processes can be successfully robotized today. Apptronik CEO Jeff Cardenas believes that the experience of the German auto giant will soon be followed by other major companies. According to economists’ forecasts, by 2030 the market of industrial robots-humanoids will reach 38 billion dollars.
