A drone food delivery service has appeared in Sweden

A food delivery service using courier drones has appeared in Sweden; the project is called Foodora Air. It is the result of cooperation between three Swedish companies: mobile operator Tele 2, food delivery company Foodora and drone manufacturer Aerit.

Customers will be able to use the services of the new service with the help of the Foodora food ordering application. However, there is one condition – the customer’s home must be suitable for service by the automatic drone courier Nimbi Aerit.

The drone reaches the customer using Tele 2’s 5G channel, which ensures constant communication with the remote operator. Upon arrival at the recipient, the drone hovers above the recipient, after which it lowers a box with a load on a tether. As soon as the box touches the ground, the tether is released, rolled up by the winch, and the courier drone returns to base.

The Nimbi Aerit has a number of advantages: it is low-noise (only 65 decibels), safe for customers, and the delivery is very fast, allowing it to be used several times on a single charge. In its ten-liter compartment, the drone can deliver cargo weighing up to 4 kilograms at a distance of 12 kilometers. Without cargo, the range increases to 21 km.
