Apple will start viewing not only photos, but also messages in the iPhone
The American company Apple has officially confirmed that it is introducing photo content verification in iOS and iPadOS devices. The measure is intended to limit the distribution of child sexual abuse materials.
New cryptography applications will be deployed at the system level. The technology will detect illegal materials stored in iCloud Photos that contain child abuse scenes. If such content is detected, Apple will provide law enforcement with information about it.
In addition to questionable photos, iOS will also track the content of messages received in the application with the same name. Using machine learning, the system will warn children and their parents about receiving or sending photos and links of a sexual nature.
Finally, the Siri voice assistant and Search will intervene if the user starts searching for topics related to child sexual abuse material. The system will explain to the user that interest in this topic is harmful and dangerous.
This functionality will work on the iPhone and iPad after the release of iOS 15, that is, in the fall of 2021. For now, preventive censorship will operate only in the U.S., but the company intends to extend this practice to other regions.
