At a news conference on Thursday, US Attorney General William Barr, before promulgating the Muller report, confirmed that Russia had made attempts to intervene in the 2016 presidential election. However, evidence of the current US President Donald Trump about collusion with the Russian side was not found.
“After nearly two years of investigation, thousands of subpoenas, and hundreds of warrants and witness interviews, the Special Counsel confirmed that the Russian government sponsored efforts to illegally interfere with the 2016 presidential election but did not find that the Trump campaign or other Americans colluded in those schemes,” Barr said.
Barr reported that US special prosecutor Robert Muller did not find signs of a “conspiracy” of US citizens with the Russian government.
US Attorney General Barr said that Trump was in an “unprecedented situation” because of the constant inspections during his tenure as head of state. In addition, world and American media spread a lot of information on the topic of the Trump conspiracy and the Russians, which was not confirmed.
