Trump thanked the Secret Service after thwarting a second assassination attempt on him

Donald Trump thanked the Secret Service and local police after the FBI reported an apparent attempted assassination attempt on him at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“I would like to thank everyone for their concern and good wishes. It was certainly an interesting day!” stated Trump on his social media Truth. – The job was done wonderfully.”

The incident, in which Trump was not injured, came two months after he was shot in the ear during a campaign event in Pennsylvania.

Trump’s security detail was inspecting the golf club grounds and surrounding area when they spotted an armed man in the bushes. Secret Service agents shot the suspect, who fled the scene and was later arrested.

According to the local sheriff’s office, the suspect left behind an “AK-47 type assault rifle” with a telescopic sight, a GoPro camera and two backpacks.

“The Secret Service agent in the field did a fantastic job,” said Sheriff Rick Bradshaw of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. – They have an agent who goes one hole ahead before the president gets there. And he was able to spot the barrel of a rifle sticking out of the fence and immediately confronted this individual and then he fled.”

U.S. President Joe Biden said in a statement Sunday evening that he was glad Trump was not hurt.

“As I have said many times, there is no place in our country for political or any other violence, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure the Secret Service has all the resources, capabilities and protections necessary to ensure the continued safety of the former president,” he said.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who is Trump’s rival in November’s presidential election, said she was “deeply troubled by a possible assassination attempt on former President Trump.”

“As President Biden has said, our administration will ensure the Secret Service has all the resources, capabilities and protections it needs to fulfill its critical mission,” Harris said.

Trump has not announced any changes to his schedule and is set to speak during a live broadcast on social network X on Monday night about the launch of his sons’ cryptocurrency platform.
