Biden won a convincing victory in Nevada’s party-line vote
Joe Biden won a convincing victory in the Nevada presidential primary, advancing to the nomination as the official Democratic Party nominee.
According to the counting of almost all ballots, Biden received 89 percent of the Democratic vote.
Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, will have to wait until Thursday when the state’s Republican Party holds its caucuses.
Although the Republican primary also took place on Tuesday, the party decided to allocate state party convention delegates through caucuses, and the dual procedure has caused some confusion among Nevada voters.
Nevertheless, Trump is also expected to end the week as the winner in Nevada.
Biden spent Sunday in Las Vegas, where he praised his administration’s efforts on the economy, saying “there’s still a lot of work to be done.”
Meanwhile, Nevada Republicans are ignoring the results of Tuesday’s primary, where Trump was not on the ballot. Instead, the state’s Republican Party has decided to award the votes of its delegates to the winner of Thursday night’s caucuses.
The convoluted procedure came about because of a state law passed in 2021 to replace presidential caucuses with statewide primaries.
The Nevada Republican Party, which is led by Trump supporters, decided to hold the caucuses anyway and choose the party’s national convention delegates from the state based on the results.
The party also warned candidates who would participate in the primaries that they would not be able to participate in the caucuses and would not receive any delegates.
Nevertheless, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley decided to run in the primary, which ended up being a complete embarrassment for her.
With virtually no competitors, Haley managed to finish… second.
After more than 60 percent of the votes were counted, the leader was “None of the Above” with 61 percent of the votes.
Haley came in second with 32 percent of the vote.
This left Trump as the only candidate with a serious chance to be debated at Thursday’s caucuses, which effectively means he is guaranteed to win.
