The U.S. administration publication notes that “the president would not accept Austin’s resignation if he submitted it.”

The coordinator for strategic communications in the National Security Council of the White House John Kirby said that the Washington administration intends to conduct an audit due to the fact that the Pentagon did not report the hospitalization of Austin in a timely manner.

At the same time, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that the American leader has “full confidence” in the 70-year-old Austin. The Minister is currently still in the Walter Reed Medical Center.

Members of the U.S. Congress demanded that Austin explain why the Pentagon did not inform the public and authorities about his hospitalization in a timely manner. The Defense Department kept information about the location of the minister’s stay secret from the White House for three days. The U.S. Secretary of Defense was hospitalized on January 1 due to complications caused by a recent medical procedure.
