The UN Security Council held a meeting on the situation in Israel

The UN Security Council held a closed-door meeting on the situation in the Middle East, but there was no statement on the outcome, despite preliminary calls by Israel for a general condemnation of Hamas. A U.S. spokesman said President Biden supports Israel.

Robert Wood, US deputy representative to the UN: “The situation remains fluid and very dangerous. And we, as well as countries in the region, must work hard to prevent this conflict from spreading. Obviously, our thoughts are with all the civilians affected. But we must focus on the ongoing terrorist violence perpetrated by Hamas.”

Meanwhile, pro-Palestinian demonstrators held a rally in front of the White House.

Despite the opposition, Washington is supporting Israel with military hardware. It is also sending an aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean to prevent other countries, particularly Iran, from getting involved in the war.

Footage of Palestinian militants taking and holding civilians hostage has sparked outrage in several European countries. In Berlin, hundreds of people came out in support of Israel.

And in the Jordanian capital of Amman, pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered. About 800 protesters carried placards and chanted slogans in support of Hamas. They also called on Arab countries to stop talks on normalizing relations with Israel.
