The U.S. will complete a wall on the border with Mexico

The White House gave the go-ahead to build a 20-mile border wall with Mexico. Thus, President Joe Biden broke the promise given during the election campaign not to build a single meter of the barrier.

Journalists were interested in the question of why Biden took such a step. The administration explained that the money was allocated during Donald Trump’s term in 2019 and should be spent now. Biden himself also spoke out.

Joe Biden, President of the United States: “I’ll answer the question about the border wall. The money to build it has been allocated. I tried to reach out to the congressmen to reallocate that money. They wouldn’t do it. They wouldn’t do it. And the law doesn’t provide any other options than to use the funds for their intended purpose.”

Biden added that he still considers border barriers an ineffective tool in the fight against illegal migration.

The decision to build the wall comes amid a bilateral U.S.-Mexico security conference to discuss migration and drug trafficking. In fiscal year 2023, the Rio Grande region saw about 245,000 illegal entries from Mexico into the U.S., according to authorities.
