Biden is ready to provide aid to Americans affected by nuclear tests

President Biden said he is ready to help people affected by radiation from nuclear tests, including in New Mexico, where the world’s first atomic bomb was tested in 1945.

Biden raised the issue while speaking at a wind turbine factory in Belen.

“I’m willing to help in terms of making sure these people are taken care of,” he said.

Attention to the state’s role in American history as a site for nuclear testing has intensified since the release of “Oppenheimer,” a movie about physicist Robert Oppenheimer and the top secret Manhattan Project.

Biden saw the movie last week while on vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
