Armed conflicts of the new times are becoming more and more “robotic”. Just now, roboticists from the Estonian Military Academy together with colleagues from other countries – Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK – have completed a two-day series of tests of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
It didn’t take long for remotely controlled robotic platforms to be replaced by autonomous combat robots capable of solving complex tasks in modern combat without human intervention. In time, they will be sent into battlefields where they will be entrusted, for example, with the heavy, routine work of delivering ammunition and food.
The test participants tested the future combat robots in off-road, wooded terrain, forcing them to navigate independently, plot routes, perform various maneuvers, bypass obstacles, and interact with team members.
